Vanwege mijn vakantie verscheen de afgelopen twee weken van mijn hand geen nieuwsbrief. Het voelt onwerkelijk om op vakantie te gaan terwijl Aleksa, Amelia, Ariana, Aram, Karina en Aleksandr Babayants binnen de kerkmuren van Open Hof moeten blijven. Op donderdag 29 januari wonen, leven en schuilen zij daar al 1 jaar en 10 weken.
Hopelijk komt daar (snel) verandering in nu het nieuwe kabinet van D66, VVD en CDA bijna op het bordes staat. Dat biedt nieuwe kansen voor een duurzame regeling en een (t)huis in Nederland voor het gezin Babayants en alle gewortelde kinderen en hun ouders. Daartoe gaan we alles op alles zetten. Hopen en bidden en vieren en lobbyen jullie met ons mee?
Inderdaad: hopen en alles vieren dat zich richt op het goede. Ik zag vandaag een oproep uit Minnesota met het verzoek om iets positiefs te delen, dat hen moed geeft om door te gaan. Dat heb ik gedaan:

Because we’re showing up every single day here, shoveling each other’s sidewalks and holding doors open and doing the quiet, steady work that doesn’t make the news but holds a whole community together, and some days the only thing that keeps you going is knowing someone out there sees it. So let us see what’s keeping you going, and we’ll carry it with us this week.

From the Netherlands. I am ever so glad you people choose positive, non-violent action. You protect fellow citizens, you protect values. In the city of Kampen we do our little bit too. A refugee-family that faces deportation has found shelter in our church. They have been living there for 14 months now and we keep them safe by having a 24/7 church-service, that legally cannot be disturbed. Hundreds of volunteers from all over the country are making this possible. Keep up the good work!
